What's New

12/24/08 - Today we mourn the passing of Obie Juan.  He belongs to my friend Jane, but he's been an integral part of Rancho Tranquilo since he arrived from Florida three years ago.  Obie broke his leg last night in a freak accident and had to be put down.  Jane was able to be here with him, and his passing was peaceful and without pain.  He will especially be missed by his best friend BonBon.

12/19/08 - Enrique's son Luis graduated from our local school today.  Next year he'll start at "colegio" which is the regional high school.  It was a proud day for Luis and his parents.

12/11/08 - This week I took Miss Mare up to her new home in Alajuela.  She has another pony, Morgan, to hang out with.  They are almost exactly the same size, and they took to each other right away.

This is Martha, Miss Mare's new owner, and her daughter.  (For some reason, this little girl wanted to be in my arms all the time we were there -- unusual because most kids don't really like me. )  The 7 year old son who will be receiving Miss Mare as a birthday/Christmas present was still in school, but they are going to send me pictures soon.

11/28/08 - Well we had quite the feed here in the valley.  We had Thanksgiving at Sal & Joanne's house. They moved here from Long Island, where they had a restaurant in the Hamptons for 30 years. As you can imagine, they are unbelievable chefs, a truly wonderful addition to the neighborhood.  They just finished building their lovely home this year. Check out the digs:

Meet Jazzy, born to my friends Michelle and Andy just two weeks ago.

The new ponies are getting acquinted with the rest of the guys.  Today we put them in the training ring, next to the day paddock so they could "touch noses" all day and get to know each other.

We put feed bags on the fence to keep them from pawing at the barbed wire, which always ends up in cuts & squeals.

11/27/08 - Happy Thanksgiving everyone!  Regalo and Astro have made it to the farm, and are having fun frolicking together in the pasture.  They are still separated from the rest of the herd, but we'll introduce them slowly over the next couple of weeks.  Check out my new handsome boys.  I have MUCH to be thankful for this year -- and I'm especially grateful to my new friends Jane and Lee, who gave these beauties to me.

11/21/08 - Well rainy season is finally winding down.  We had a rather big earthquake (6.2) on late Wednesday night -- woke me up from a sound sleep, but no damage whatsoever.  Nice rocking though.  This New England girl is learning to live with earthquakes.

The big news on the farm is that we are receiving two new horses.  They are a gift from a woman up in Jaco that I know from Costa Rica Living (an online group I belong to).  She needed to find a new home for her babies, and she liked my farm the best!  I'm going to pick them up next week sometime.

Astro is this handsome big boy, almost six years old, pretty big and still growing.  Gorgeous, huh?
His brother Regalo is the bay shown on the left.  He's not quite as big, but looks nice and strong.

Thanks to Jane for giving us our new friends!

The other news is that Miss Mare will be going to a new home.  Daniella isn't really riding her anymore, and I need the stall space for the new horses.  I found a wonderful family up near San Jose that will give her a good home.

She'll be hanging with Morgan, a 20-year old criollo pony.  Most importantly, she's going to be a Christmas present for a little 7-year-old boy who I know will love her and take good care of her.

In other news, check out my new links on the left for Horseback Tours.
